Elections are a bit like birthdays for some they come around regardless and whilst not wanting to raise the issue of age they do have the similar effect of inviting a fresh start, albeit for 5 years. To some of course it might be the beginning of the end!!

Irrespective, when you stand in the voting booth it’s funny how there is a momentary flashback of what has been and images of what might be.

With Insurance there’s a similar mind set insofar as what should have been insured but still isn’t and what must get insured. Then like voting cast the moment is gone until it crops up again. Usually by some advert or conversation with friends or colleagues.

Yes we all know about insurance, and most think it’s no more complex than watching a few meerkats or a man in shorts, high heels and a large rear end suggesting you just go to a comparison site and voila all is sorted.

We won’t dispute insurance isn’t rocket science, but it’s also not so simple. Every person and business has specific needs which can only, to a basic degree be similar to someone else.

For all the faults insurance clearly has, sneaky exemptions and exclusions most obviously, nothing else has come up that can do what insurance can. So in a way it’s a damned if you do and maybe more so if you don’t.

Finally an article today mentioned that more and more are looking to secure Cyber Insurance. It’s an area that is worrying everyone, and even the infamous ‘cloud’ has been proven to be not as secure as we had been led to believe. Please just remember one thing, you can get insurance for pretty well anything but nothing comes free or with bells on.  

With Cyber Insurance as a company you need to have to ensure you have a huge amount of security in place already to get the cover and in some degree a full back up sorted which begs the question what are you then getting for the insurance you’re paying for and the answer is questionable. 

If a system was created by man it can be broken by man, so in truth nothing is inaccessible, which means access to your own computers will get ever more comprehensive. 4 digit codes will turn in 10 and 6 letters of different font sizes with no doubt a gamut of differing exclamation marks for luck.

Logging will never again be how it was!  

Security is no small thing and we have no want to be flippant, but even multiple fire walls won’t stop the obsessed intruder. 

So please before you commit to cyber insurance, don’t get caught up in the froth of it all. Just check how you allow access and if that means changing passwords every month then please do it.
