They Have a Point...

Direct Line have come out today and said their research has shown the home business sector is relying too much on household policies.
Of course every insurance company will want to sell you insurance and use a fear factor however indirect. But the thing you need to be aware of is that many commercial activities are not covered by your home insurance.
Apparently some of their respondents said they weren’t big enough to be need insurance, which is understandable if the business is a glorified hobby. But hobbies can grow into mainstream businesses and many do.
For sure home contents will often cover office equipment like a scanner/copiers, PC’s, fax machines and home office basics. But the idea of stock stored in the home, public liability or loss of earnings caused by flooding or fire certainly will not be covered.
Customers visiting a home business will not be covered if injured during the visit or has any of their property damaged whilst visiting.
So whilst you may feel more than happy you won’t need extra insurance please think about the idea if you’re running a growing home business that is more than a hobby.
